Foster families provide full-time temporary care for children who are not able to live safely with their primary family. Greene County Children Services helps arrange foster care in homes with fully screened, qualified families.

“Every community needs good foster homes that offer a safe and stable environment. We are happy just knowing that our foster child is thriving and we can help give her a good start in life.”
Jodi H., foster parent

“The most rewarding part of being a foster parent is watching the children flourish and enjoy life. And Greene County Children Services is always there for you if you need anything. They offer a lot of support and really have the children’s best interest at heart.”
Kelly W., foster parent

Qualifications

Foster caregivers must be at least 18 years of age. Other qualifications include:
  • Completion of a foster care application
  • 36 hours of pre-service training provided by Greene County Children Services
  • Participation in a home study, a physical exam and a criminal background check
  • Sufficient income to meet the financial needs of their family
We take these steps to ensure that foster families will provide the safe, healthy and supportive environment children need to grow and flourish. Foster parents must also be sensitive to the behavioral and emotional impact that the trauma of family separation can have on a child.

Financial help

Foster parents are paid a board rate to assist with the cost of food, shelter, clothing and other items. Medical costs for foster children are usually covered through Ohio Medicaid programs.
