Weights & Measures

Weights and Measures Symbol (JPG)
Weights and Measures inspectors inspect any weighing or measuring device used in commercial transactions. Fuel meters, retail devices, price verification systems, packaged goods, mulch, firewood, taxi meters, timing devices, are all examples of devices inspected and tested in the county. Under Ohio law (O.R.C. 319.55), the county auditor serves as the official sealer of all weighing and measuring devices used in the county for commercial sales.
The seal presented to the left is placed on tested equipment when certified correct. Report any devices that do not have a seal of the Weights and Measures Department at (937) 562-5618.

Certification

All Weights and Measures inspectors are required to receive annual training from the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Division of Weights and Measures. Inspectors must complete a series of 20 tests and two exams with a minimum score of 80 percent or higher, as well as attend 18 hours of continued development classes per year to maintain certification.
