Ohio State Law (O.R.C. 955) requires any dog over the age of three months to have a license within thirty days of ownership.

The following fee structure has been established by the Greene County Commissioners:

License Type Cost Expiration Date
Single (1) Year License $20 January 31, 2022
Three (3) Year License $60 January 31, 2024
Permanent License $200 For the life of the dog

To obtain a license, please visit one of the following locations, or mail directly to the auditor's office with the appropriate application, fee, and any subsequent penalties.

Partial License Fees

After July 1st of each year, license fees will be one-half the original fee for the following reasons only:
  • A dog becoming three months old on or after July 1st
  • A dog bought from outside the state on or after July 1st

Late Registration Penalty

If licenses are not purchased within thirty days of purchase, or the dog license is not purchased between December 1 to January 31st, a penalty equal to the license fee will be charged (i.e., an annual dog license is $20 and after January 31st, the cost with the penalty would equal $40).

Kennel License Cost

  • $100.00 per year for five dog licenses
  • $1.00 for additional dog licenses
  • $100.00 penalty after January 31 of each year

The Greene County Auditor's Office is not responsible to determine if each applicant is restricted from having a kennel license at his or her address. The office recommends checking local zoning restrictions in the municipality or township that would prohibit a kennel before applying. There is the potential that restricted covenants could be attached to the property deed.

Owning five or more dogs personally does not qualify for a kennel license and will be subject to the individual standard per dog.

Lost Dog License

If a tag is lost, a duplicate shall be furnished by the auditor upon proof of registration and payment of $5.00 for each duplicate tag issued (O.R.C. 955.08).

Lost Dog / Dog Tag Search

In order to reunite a licensed dog with its proper owner, you can search for the owner by using our Dog Tag Search application by contacting the Greene County Animal Control Office.

Please make sure to update your contact information with the County Auditor if it has changed (address or phone number). This will help ensure that you can be reunited with your dog.
