With the passage of Ohio House Bill 59, the state portion of the sales and use tax rate will increase by one-quarter percent (1/4%), effective September 1, 2013. The state sales and use tax rate will increase from five and one-half percent (5.5%) to five and three-quarters percent (5.75%). The County and/or transit taxes that are in addition to the state tax will not be altered. Greene County's combined sales and use tax rate will increase from six and one-half percent (6.5%) to six and three-quarters percent (6.75%) effective September 1, 2013. The State of Ohio Department of Taxation began notifying taxpayers of the change by postcard on July 2, 2013. Notices of rate changes are posted on the Ohio Department of Taxation's web site -- tax.ohio.gov.
