[ARCHIVED] Family and Children First Council Needs Family Representatives

Family Representatives are needed to serve on the Greene County Family and Children First Council.  The Greene County Family and Children First Department was established in 1996 by the Board of County Commissioners.  The Department serves as the local administrative agent for the Greene County Family and Children First Council.  In doing so the Department assists service providers, community groups and residents to effectively address the health, human and social service needs of Greene County.

In this volunteer position, Family Representatives will take an active role on the Family and Children First Council, reviewing plans, policies and budgets and providing feedback to enhance family-centered approaches and offer opinions on the impact of plans and policies on families of Greene County.  Family Representatives will be asked to assist in educating professionals on how to work more effectively with families and ensure the Council is aware of current issues affecting families.  Family Representatives will also be asked to educate the public on Council goals and activities.

To be eligible to serve as a Family Representative, an individual should be the parent or guardian of a child receiving or who previously received services from an agency represented on the Greene County Family and Children First Council.  Examples include not only Family and Children First Department, but also: public schools, Family Solutions Center, TCN, Juvenile Court, the Board of Developmental Disabilities, Children Services and Head Start.  The time commitment required would be attendance once a quarter at a Full Council meeting, held at 9a.m. at the Greene County Educational Service Center in Yellow Springs.  Meetings are typically an hour in length.  Also, the individuals who make up the Family Representative Council will be asked to meet once a quarter, at a time to be determined by the group.
