HB-614 CCW Permit Press Release

October 5, 2020

Authority:  Sheriff Gene Fischer

RE:  HB-614/CCW Permits

With the recent passage and Governors signing of HB-614 in law, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office will incorporate changes into our local CCW application process.  The new provisions adopted in HB-614 changes the law from applying for a CCW permit in your county of residence or an adjoining county to allowing Ohio residents in any county to apply in any other Ohio county.   Many Sheriff’s offices across the state use an appointment system with 2020 schedules full and now scheduling into 2021.   This office will continue to keep our walk up window open with some minor changes.  The window for all Ohio users will be open on Monday thru Thursdays from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Another provision in HB-614 allows the Sheriff to set a day aside for county residents only.  Fridays from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm will now be set aside for Greene county residents only to apply for their CCW permits and out of county residents will be turned away.   The CCW window will close each day at 3:00 pm to allow for clerical work on the days applicants.  Any increase in numbers may require this office to re-evaluate these procedures and make additional changes in the future.  Please note that HB-614 extended the expiration of CCW permits to June 30, 2021.   Also note the location of our office to handle this process is 105 E. Market Street in Xenia.  The small lobby will only accommodate 1 person at a time and the waiting line will be on the sidewalk, outside.  The wait in line can be lengthy at times and there is no protection from any weather elements so those who choose to utilize our facility should plan ahead for weather conditions.  For any additional information on obtaining a CCW permit at the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, please visit our website at .
