You can ask the Court for a continuance by filing a Motion for Continuance. In your Motion, you must explain to the Court why you have good cause for not attending on the assigned date. Visit the Forms page for a Motion template. Be aware that filing the Motion for Continuance does not guarantee your court date will be moved. It is your responsibility to follow-up with the Court to see if the motion was granted.
If your motion is granted, you will be mailed a new hearing date. If your motion is denied, the hearing will go forward as scheduled, even if you are not there.
Your Motion must be filed and served on the appropriate parties at least 7 days prior to your hearing.
